April 13, 2024 @ 7:30 pm - 10:30 pm EDT

Doors Open: 6:30 pm
Film Screening: 7:30 pm
Q&A Panel: 9:00 pm

Community Speaks Out is hosting a screening of the documentary “Silence on the Streets” that explores the journey of addiction through the perspective of inner-city minorities and Native Americans.

Community Speaks Out will be joined by local resource partners before the film in the Garde lobby.

Following the screening there will be a Question and Answer panel including Sharece Sellem-Hannah and representatives from HIDTA and Community Speaks Out.

Award-winning playwright Sharece Sellem-Hannah skillfully intertwines personal narratives with expert insights from the fields of addiction, trauma, psychology, prevention, and harm reduction alongside individuals with firsthand experiences, uncovering the many factors that contribute to the distinct life experiences of black, brown, Latin X, and Native Americans, profoundly shaping their struggles with addiction throughout their lifetimes and their road to recovery.

The documentary’s intent is to invite community members to have meaningful conversations and to serve as a catalyst for change in how we perceive and address addiction within marginalized communities.

The documentary is brought to us by the New England HIDTA (High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas) filmed in Connecticut including New London and Norwich.
